Success Stories
All my life I have been physically active and fit. However, as the years have crept upon me, and life grew more complicated, I noticed a gradual but definite decline in many areas that in my youth never seemed to be a problem to manage: weight gain, loss of strength and coordination, less stamina, aches and pains, and a general sense of slowing down and losing control of my health.
At age 56 I knew I was too young to be old. I realized that I could not rely on the ways I had taken care of myself in the past, so along with some friends, I signed up in Lorrie’s beginning Pilates class once a week.
Even the first session changed my outlook. The fact that I had made a decision to be proactive and take charge of my body took away much of the guilt and fear of what was ahead of me.
A year and a half later, I am still participating in class and I have added a private session each week as well. I have made a commitment that I must do this for myself for the rest of my life.
As a result of Lorrie’s guidance, I am getting stronger, more flexible, I have better self-image, better habits and because of her expertise in physical therapy, many of my problem areas have been cured or improved. I’m also getting a great education in anatomy and physiology of the body, which has helped me understand the “whys” of her directions.
I have re-learned that there are no shortcuts to health. There is no downtime. If I am not progressing — I am automatically going backward — and I know I DO NOT like to lose ground that I have worked so hard to gain.
I know that if I am physically fit, I am more likely to be mentally and emotionally fit as well, and I am looking forward to the next 40 years of my life because I can see so many possibilities wide open — just for me.

The instructor is a physical therapist and Pilates instructor. She can adapt any exercise to meet your current state of health. Your Zenergy Pilates experience will be safe, fun and rewarding.
Why do you recommend Solo Pilates sessions?
The solo session gives me the opportunity to customize your learning experience. During the solo session, we discuss your past history and any concerns you may have about your health and Pilates. I also see which muscles are working, which are not.
I then customize this solo session so you leave with a solid understanding of what your core muscles are, where they are and how to activate them. This knowledge is vital once you go into a group setting, especially if you have a history of injury, illness or pain.
Ongoing solo sessions allow you to maximize the benefit of Pilates exercises, because the work is customized to your particular areas of weakness. We do not have to follow the multiple needs of a group.
What is the benefit of the Pilates equipment (Cadillac, reformer, combo chair)?
The equipment has several benefits:
- It helps your muscles and body learn healthy movement patterns that can prevent injury and decrease pain.
- It makes the Pilates exercises more challenging and dynamic.
- It stretches and strengthens your muscles at the same time.
- It improves balance and dynamic coordination, resulting in fewer injuries and falls as you age
- You simply feel good when you complete exercising on the equipment
My health club offers Pilates as part of my membership. What is special about Pilates classes at Zenergy?
Zenergy is unique for several reasons:
- The primary focus of Zenergy is small classes with personalized instruction. You receive extensive cueing on technique, so you receive the maximum benefit from the exercises.
- You are instructed not only on the exercise, but how to carry that movement over to everyday activities. You learn to move with strength, grace and ease all the time.
- Lorrie Harper, the instructor, is also a physical therapist, if you have a history of injury and pain, or if you are struggling with a particular exercise or movement, she has the knowledge and skills to modify the exercises, so they are performed safely and for maximum results
I tried Pilates, but it hurt my neck and back. Is it safe for me to do Pilates?
Yes, it is safe and recommended that you do Pilates exercises. The power of Pilates is not the exercises themselves, but HOW the exercises are performed. Proper technique, using your core muscles, including your deep stomach, trunk and upper back muscles, is very important.
Unfortunately, due to past injuries, poor posture habits and for women childbirth, these core muscles often become overstretched and weak.
Most people learn to compensate for weak core muscles by overusing the superficial stomach muscle, neck, hips, and low back muscles. If you performed Pilates exercises using these compensating muscles… it would likely result in more neck and back pain.
However, when Pilates is performed using good technique and the correct muscle groups it results, in less neck and back pain.
Come to Zenergy and learn the proper technique, so you can move with greater ease and comfort now, and prevent further injury and pain to your neck and back in the future.
Can I just drop-in to a class or do I have to sign up?
It is strongly recommended you call ahead before attending classes at Zenergy. To ensure a quality-learning environment all classes are limited to 6-8 people. If you would like to drop-in to a class please call ahead and ensure there is room in a class before you arrive.
Do you accept insurance?
Insurance is not accepted at Zenergy. Not working through insurance companies gives me the freedom to focus 100% of my attention on client care and services.
I would be happy to provide a receipt with my licensure credentials if you would like to submit the visit to your insurance company, or to your health savings account.
Can I pay for services with a credit card?
Zenergy is a check / cash preferred business. We do not accept credit cards.
Could I hear more information about the Pilates Method of exercise?
HISTORY
German born Joseph Pilates developed the Pilates method of exercise over 90 years ago. It began as a personal regime, that a young, sickly Joseph Pilates used to improve his own health. It evolved into specialized equipment and exercises that he used to rehabilitate soldiers in British hospitals following World War I.
In the 1940’s Joseph Pilates brought his exercise techniques to New York City. It soon spread through the dance community of New York that if you wanted to return to dancing quickly following an injury, "go see Joe".
His techniques that emphasized a strong core, breathing, flexibility and length, mind-body coordination and flowing, powerful, efficient movement was the perfect training and rehabilitation method for the dancers body.
In addition, it helped the dancers prevent injury and maintain a strong, flexible, graceful, centered body and mind.
The Pilates technique has now gone mainstream. One will find it at Pilates studios, fitness facilities, rehabilitation centers, the training room of professional football, baseball and hockey teams, and the private gyms of movie stars. The word is out the Pilates training can transform the way you look, feel and move. More info
