Success Stories
Before starting Pilates, I felt that my body was not performing well for me during daily tasks, as it should for someone 39 years old. Climbing stairs winded me, I felt a general lack of energy, and I
experienced periodic neck and hip pain.
I didn't feel physically strong, and was searching for a long-term plan to combat my body's alleged conspiracy against me. I wanted to tone my muscles, tighten my abs, and
experience an overall feeling of well-being.
Since I have been doing Pilates, I have noticed a number of changes. After my first few weeks, I felt an improvement in my overall posture.
I became aware of the way I carried myself from the knowledge and foundation Lorrie had established during classes.
We had been working on the core muscle groups, which were extremely weak for me at the time.
Time, gravity, and three pregnancies had taken its toll on my stomach!
I remember sitting in my bathtub after approximately four weeks of Pilates training. We had been learning to corset (pull stomach muscles toward the body's center and lower the rib cage to meet them).
My brain told my stomach muscles to corset, and for the first time since my early twenties,
my stomach visibly moved when I told it to do so. I was amazed, and realized that the classes were working.
I also began to notice that I slept better at night. I didn't feel some of the previous aches and pains when I woke up in the morning. I felt that my sleep was restful, and that my
energy level was progressively rising.
After nearly a year and a half of Pilates classes, I feel a greater
awareness of my body and its overall needs. I feel that I have greater
knowledge about my body and my anatomy in general.
I understand that the benefits of Pilates are long-term and measurable by how I look and feel.
I recently began private Pilates instruction, which has accelerated my personal Pilates level. I feel healthier than I did a few years ago. I feel emotionally centered. I feel good that I am doing something to combat osteoporosis and my body's aging. I feel good about myself.
Pilates has taught me that I have more control over my body's response to aging than I realized. I have a great deal of control over my future long-term health.
I know that I am responsible to do what is best for my physical and emotional health--that no one else will do it for me. I have learned that if I push my body, and myself then I can rely on it for many years to come.
